About Money

Money clothing was launched in 2003 by Melvyn de Villiers and Nick Cordell. They were joined a year later by Takashi "Maru" Marujo. The three fashion designers set out to design a collection of urban clothing that they felt "proud to wear, not just because of the label, but also because of the product itself."

The brand started out with just 8 T-shirts which were offered at trade shows in the US and Japan. From early on it was clear that the aim was to infiltrate the American urban fashion market, which was ripe with Hip Hop fashion brands in the early 2000s.

Money made a name for itself with their iconic "Dollar Jeans" which featured a genuine dollar bill in an air-tight plastic seal sown into the back pocket. They created multiple versions featuring different currencies, including English, Cuban, Colombian, and Japanese variants. Money also released the "Swag Bag" in 2007 (and again in 2017), which was lined with 24 genuine dollar bills.

Money Clothing is now owned by Manchester-based brand management company The Boi Group.
